You would have been forgiven for thinking that upon arrival at Stone SC you were abroad – the sun was shining, the temperature was up and the wind was a blowing! Perfect conditions for K6 racing.
A small but select fleet completed 3 races on day one in stunning conditions; the efficient race team got all races away in good time. With the strong wind it was the team of Jonathan Calascione, Pyers Tucker & Myles Mence who took a right hand flyer to take the lead by 100m at the first mark. Although the fleet closed on them, they went on to take first place.
In race 2 Neil Fulcher & Lawrence Crispin made full advantage of their local knowledge to take the winning gun.
The final race of the day was won by Peter Kirkby, Richard Barker & Dave Hall, having watched team Fulcher in the previous races they had started to pick up on the local tides.
Day 2 brought slightly less wind but still amazing sailing conditions. With team Fulcher and team Kirkby starting the day on equal points the racing was tight and competitive, team Fulcher just won the first race but made sure of the second and third and so doing won the event. Dave Smithwhite & Martin Wedge were in the mix giving both Fulcher and Kirkby a run for their money but it was team Kirkby that eventually put in enough to gain second.
A thoroughly enjoyable weekend with an efficient and professional race team on and off the water – plus of course wonderful food and drink from the host club.
