by Graham Tory 1 Oct 2010 08:27 UTC 25 September 2010

Six travellers came to join 10 home boats for the 8th Solo Open at Ely on 25 Sept.

Conditions were sunny with a fresh N Westerly, the first race got cleanly away soon after 11.00. First to the windward mark was Ely man Simon Leeks with Ian Ayres, Rollesby, & Godfrey Clark close behind. After the first lap Clark broke through and held on to the lead to the finish.

The second race had James Mead, FGSC, first to the windward mark with Simon Leeks on his tail, but it soon turner battle between Mead, who held the lead for 2 laps, and Clark who got past in lap 3 and held it to the finish.

By the third race the wind had strengthened and moved more to the West so the start line was moved to get a better first beat. Ayres was first to the mark again but Clark got past and held on to the lead to the finish.

Overall Results:

1st Godfrey Clark (Fishers Green SC)
2nd James Mead (FGSC)
3rd Simon Leeks (Ely SC)
