Mirrors from all over the North West arrived at Gresford for the annual Mirror open meeting. A south westerly breeze provided ample wind for racing and although the weather was overcast, the rain held off all day. The competition was judged on the best three results of each sailor in the four race series with each race lasting about 50 minutes.

Race 1 saw Roseanne Yeoward and Anna Mackenzie(current World Mirror Champion) from Rhosneigr take an early lead with Nick Blore and Jack Sheppard from Gresford doing their best to keep up. Many of the visitors struggled d to follow the course in the first race and the Race officers were kept busy checking the positions of the boats. At the end of the first Race it was Yeoward and Mackenzie first, Blore and Sheppard second and Harry Yeoward and crew Jack More from Rhosneigr third.

Race got underway in freshening conditions with two boats capsizing during the race. Brendan Sweeny and Max Ligenis from Royal Windermere YC took and held the lead for most of the race with David Grey and Bethany Grey also from Royal Windermere YC pressing hard on their tail. Third and fourth position changed thought out the race between Roseanne Yeoward and Mackenzie and Harry Yeoward and More. At the finish it was the Grey’s who persistence paid off to take first place with Sweeny and Ligenis second and Yeoward and Mackenzie third.

Race 3 after lunch was a repeat of race two for the three leading boats with the Grey’s first, Sweeny and Ligenis second and Yeoward and Mackenzie who overtook Nicky Hugh and Molly Gore, Royal Windermere YC on the last lap to take third place.

Race 4 results waited on the outcome of a protest meeting following a mark rounding incident on the first lap between the leading boats. Sweeny and Ligenis had lead the race from start to finish, the Grey’s survived the protest meeting to hold on to second place and Yeoward and Mackenzie had to settle for third place.

Overall Results:

2nd Brendan Sweeny and Max Ligenis (Royal Windermere YC)
