The Wiscasset Yacht Club was formed in 1952 by 23 founding members, 1 of whom is still a member. The present Club House was built on pilings over the water and because of deterioration of the foundation piles was moved to land in 2010. A new pier was built in 2016. Water and power were supplied to the floating docks recently. Most of the work to upgrade and maintain the club’s house and facilities has been done by volunteer members. We have a wonderful building located on picturesque Wiscasset Harbor. The Wiscasset Yacht Club welcomes sailors, power boaters, kayakers, fishermen, families and singles, and vessels large or small.
The mission of the club has been to promote fellowship and activities on the water and ashore. The club is open from April in the spring until October in the fall. In recent years, the membership has continued to socialize weekly during the winter at a local watering hole or a member’s home. Unfortunately, due to Covid, these have been curtailed since 2020, but we hope to resume them soon. The winter activities had become more and more welcome outside the boating season. The club begins its season with a spring banquet and then opening day about the last Sunday in April, or the first Sunday in May.
The summer is filled with activities on the water and onshore. Wednesday Grille Night and Friday socials have become very popular, though, for a variety of reasons, Grille Night was not a constant in 2021. We are planning a return of Grille Nights or something similar on Wednesday Nights in 2022. There are frequent parties and Rendezvous at the clubhouse and on the water.
In 2022 our club is continuing the sailing program with instruction for youth and adults. We have a new (to us) building which will be developed into a Sailing Center for the club’s sailboats.
Whether or not you own a boat or just love to be around them, the Wiscasset Yacht Club welcomes you with open arms! We love boating and all that goes along with it!!
