Mullingar Sailing Club, founded in 1964, is 4 km N.W of Mullingar on the South East shore of Lough Owel.
Lough Owel is a spring fed, glacial lake which is 6 km long by 3km wide, with an area of 2,547 acres.
The water quality is good and the Lake is managed by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board who over many decades have preserved it as a trout fishery.
Lough Owel is a deep lake, the race area has water depths between 12 to 25 m.
